That’s just the animals, but the diversity of trees plants like, Orquids, Palms or Elephant Ears is tremendous and incredible.

– (b) With a brief 20 minute-drives to the lower Peñas Blancas River in an air-conditioned van. From there, we launch inflatable rafts on this slower moving section of the river. Enjoy a relaxing 2 hour float with no motor, only the incredible sounds of nature around you. Our bilingual naturalist guide will describe species of flora and fauna of the region.

The second part of the tour includes a stop at farm of Don Pedro. This is the highlight of the trip for most tourists. Shake his hand; calloused by hard manual labor on what most considered useless farmland, and without roads, electricity, or running water. Our guide will translate his speaking as you enjoy talking with this fascinating man and his family.

Our guide will tell you on the many medicinal purposes of plants in the rainforest.

Finally we re-board the rafts for our final 40 minute-floats to Boca Arenal while we continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The return trip to La Fortuna allows you to see the extensive agriculture system of San Carlos County.

Now we head back past town to the La Fortuna Waterfall. Look around as we head up the road, and take in the beautiful panoramic views of the San Carlos lowlands. A short hike down a steep trail (with steps and a handrail) leaves you only a few feet in front of this powerful waterfall. Time to relax.  Sit on the huge rocks around the falls, admire the beauty of the surrounding flora, take a refreshing swim in several pools, or get a massage the natural way under several smaller waterfalls.

By now you are looking forward to a great lunch at restaurant. A fantastic typical Costa Rican lunch will get your energy back for the next part of your tour.

The final stop of Tabacón Resort is just a few minutes away. We start with a guided walk along the trails of past lava flows. Hear eruptions and lava tumbling down the face of this mighty volcano. Occasionally we also see lava rocks on this side of the mountain. Now it’s time to relax in what most will agree is the best thermal hot springs in the world. Enjoy thermal rivers with large waterfalls to sit under for a wonderful massage, or stand behind as a natural sauna. There are also 7 different temperature pools, a cold water pool, Jacuzzis, swim-up bar, a first class Spa, perfectly manicured grounds with many grass areas to relax, an unbelievable variety of flowers and trees, paths along the edge of the rainforest, and more. All of this with the volcano right in front of you. It’s not hard to see why this is the number one attraction in Costa Rica. Top it all off with a buffet dinner at the resort.

*Wear long pants and hiking shoes. Bring bathing suit, towel, repellent, poncho, camera, binoculars, and plenty of film.

 Venado Caves

Get ready for an adventure unlike anything you have ever done before.

You will never be the same!

We start with a 45 minute drive to the private farm where the caves are located. Upon arrival you will be given a flashlight u0026amp; helmet, and fitted for rubber boots (size 11 or larger must wear their own shoes). Our expert bilingual naturalist guide will start with a brief history of the caves.

A short hike later and you are standing in amazement at the river flowing from the cave entrance. There are no lights or walkways, so you will feel as if you are the first person to discover them. Turn on your flashlight, jump into the river, and watch out for those spiders on the walls! There is no turning back now.

It’s a little difficult to walk up the river, but that’s just part of the adventure. Be prepared to squeeze through small holes, crawl through tight passages, climb small rock formations, crawl on your stomach with only your head above water in a narrow tunnel as fish swim by, or walk up small waterfalls. Feel the air move around your face as of bats fly just above your head. Notice how they have carved their nests out of solid rock. We seldom lose a tourist!

Enjoy the numerous stalactites, stalagmites, coral, and chimneys as you journey back in time. The “Papaya” formation is spectacular.

This is an experience you will never forget! Recommended only for people in good shape.

CELESTE RIVER HIKE

 TENORIO VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK

We leave La Fortuna at 7am for this fascinating adventure combining a discovery of nature’s magic with the chance to observe wonderful flora and fauna.  The tour lasts approximately 10 hours all together and on clear days it’s possible to get a view of the Arenal, Tenorio and Miravalles Volcanoes and sometimes even Lake Nicaragua.

The Celeste River zone is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica.  On the way we stop for a rest in a picturesque village and then continue on towards the “Rio Celeste” in the Tenorio Volcano National Park.  On arriving at the park we set off on a 7km (approximately 4 miles) hike which passes by the River Celeste Lagoon, a great place for taking photographs.  Finally we arrive at the river itself where mother nature magically mixes the water of two crystal-clear streams, changing the water’s color to a beautiful bright, light-blue (hence the name “Rio Celeste” or Light-Blue River).

Next we continue on to an area with cavities in the earth known as “las ollas” (the cooking pots), full of a clay with therapeutic properties.  We get the chance to cover our bodies with this clay and then wash it off in the Tenorio Volcano Thermal Waters!

The hike continues on through the mountains on rough paths into the jungle discovering an area of the volcano where gases are expelled at very high temperatures.  At the end of a steep but interesting walk down, we get to see, in all its splendor, the Rio Celeste Waterfall which is impressive not for its size but for its unique colors.

After the waterfall there is a tough hike back to the park entrance where we are served a delicious, well- deserved lunch.
